|
|
I have an ECS K1N Extreme MB never overclocked which will now not pass the
post test. I have removed the board and everything on it except the AMD64
+4000 and the PSU connected to the main socket and the aux 12v socket.
With or without a video card/lcd or single memory strip there is no post
beep from the speaker connected to the mb spk socket and no illumination at
all on the screen..
All the PCI lights are flashing and the memory safety light is on.
Last unusual symptom was a clicking boot HDD but I do not have any drives
connected in this test.
The NFORCE4 chip is cooled with a third party large heatsink/pipe cooler
which I used to replace the very loud electric fan. I have of course
cleaned and renewed the compound on both the CPU and Nforce chip
Must I assume that the board is fried?

Check the board for bulging or leaking capacitors. There are
companies which will replace defective caps if it turns out that is
what is wrong with the board.

Michael, |
All caps appear fine. I have a "top hat" bios firmware resetter chip which
came with the MB but I am reluctant to use this as it then requires a web
download of the original firmware. I have cleared the bios memory but
still no sign of post activity from the speaker or screen.

It's an ECS, what did you expect?

I was going to say something similar, but I thought I'd let someone else go
first.
