Guys and Girls....I have a wife who works shift work and when she
sleeps, the sound in the house diminishes to a minimum or my ass is on
the line.

Having said that, here is my problem:

I am using a 3547-003 with a Thinkpad 600 aboard to record vinyl
records and remake them into CDs. With all the modern software, it is
a very easy task. Monitoring the sound is not an easy task although
it would seem to be.

I am connected from my turntable through a preamp to the line input
jack on the docking station. I have great signal input and can record
with wild abandon.......however, I CANNOT SHUT OFF THE SPEAKERS IN THE
DOCKING STATION!!! (so you can see from the first statement in this
posting, what kind of trouble old CT is in)

Any clues as to what I might be able to do?

In the lower right-hand corner of the dock (on the right-hand side,
near the front, towards the base) there's a thumbwheel which adjusts
the volume of the speakers. For those of us with "old eyes", it's
almost invisible (easier to find with your fingers than your eyes).

Now you know why my forehead is flat.......

That makes two of us.

One of my laptops is an IBM Thinkpad A31. I couldn't figure out how to get
sound of the built in speakers. Tried everything. Software, chanting,
drivers, threats, blah blah..........

Went on the internet, and found out about the volume button right above the
keyboard.

RTFM...........................

And like Rick mentioned, old eyes...............

Indeed.....it is comforting to know that I am not alone in my
fumbling :-)
