I have the tech ref book and the guide to ops book if you have any
jumper or switch questions.
So... can you scan and PDF it?
|
I have been offline due to a Comcast screwup. They now sleep with the
fishes, I am DSL
The switched on the AT bus card are set;
DS 301 all 4 off
DS302 on an AT (16 bit) 1 on 2-8 off On an XT (8 bit) 1,5,7,8 on
2,3,4,6 off
On the drive there should be a terminator in the back for a single
drive. One drive all 4 address switches off. The single switch can be
either way for one drive. Normally #1 is 0 #2 is 1
If you want this thing to look like a disk drive you load the driver
ECYDDX.SYS in config.sys (use the option "drives= 01" to set the
number of drives so it doesn't default to and load IBM3363.EXE in
the autoexec.
I will try to get this scanned but it is one page at a time so I might
be a while |

Hi Peter,
The diagnostic routines allows / mentiones up to 8 drives, so the
drive-ID switch SW601 seems to have more functions than only the ID (8
devices = 3 bits).
On page 4-1 (Programming), there is a note stating "Optical drives 3 through
8 are available only on certain PS/2 models". However, maximum four adapters
can be installed (because there are four I/O ranges) in a system, and with
two devices per adapter, we have a max of 8 devices. The adapter rather
behaves in a master and slave manner, just like an IDE (pp. 3-3, 3-4, Select
0, 1: selects device 0 or 1; or but Alert 0, 1), though there is not an
explicit master slave relationship mentioned.
The BIOS drive command "Selective Drive Reset" provides for a drive address
0 through 7 (pp. 5-9). Other BIOS commands behave similarly. The BIOS
supports up to 8 drives. For some reason, the adapter has been wired to
support only 2 devices.
A volume mount record is written on track 1 of the first useable sector of
the optical disk (see Fig. 4-4). There is a field designating the media
type, it is set to 0 to mark a Write Once disk. Perhaps the drive itself was
able to support Write Many media (which were hardly available at that time).
The 3363 techref is somehow typical of the secrecy of the times, it does not
discuss in detail the specific communication between the adapter and the
optical drive.
I think the good book is the guide to operations p/n 00F9624 |
I will try to get the good pages copied. I might just keep copies of
the ones I need and send the book on to a mafia member with a decent
scanner for the rest of y'all
I knew my PUBORDER subscription would come in handy some day ;-) |

Hi!

Horrible sight: the sides and som backs of them

brown packaging tape.

I hope the CD's OK. If it is, there may be a facility on it to remake
the diskettes.
If the CD has tape on it, especially on the label side...I don't know
what you'll do. Extremely careful peeling or scraping is probably the
best thing to do. Making a copy immediately afterward--or even
beforehand, if the label doesn't obstruct spaces outside what a CD
would normally occupy when in the drive--in a *low speed* drive would
be a really good idea.
For floppy diskettes, I agree with what Tim said. I will confess that
I used an ISA slot cover end or a fingernail to start the label
instead of a sharpened wooden stick. Goo Gone or a similar *gentle*
product should be safe to use if you use only a little bit of it. I
used it to clean up the "twenty labels on top of one another" residue
that most of my disks had after I'd removed as much of the label as
possible with gentle scraping and peeling.

The Blackbeast lives.............
Received 3 each 18gb hard drives yesterday, and after the Boss left
for work, I installed all 3.......problem was I couldn't get a
complete boot........
I had correctly addressed all 3 drives according to the literature,
but when I accessed the configuration window, it showed all 3, but
only #4 had a size.....5 & 6 had ????????????
Disconnected 5 & 6, rebooted and set the boot sequence, and
voile.....AIX 5.2 is going in as we speak. Once I get it up and
running (and before I start playing with it), my goal is to get it on
my network and then into the internet through my cable modem.
Beware....I am gonna need a LOT of help....forewarned is
forearmed.....

Congrats!
I wonder if we shouldn't create a closed mailing list for eBay items. Our

300 is a great movie full of visual effects and graphics which made it different and much better.
Acting was great, director did a wonderful job and chose great actors, full of action, and it is based on a true story.
